This lathe is listed locally on MPLS Craig’s list with more photos. This 1945 South Bend Lathe was part of the Corp of Engineer commissioned for the Minnesota Navy. Then in 1987 was decommissioned and a local city highway department procured the lathe for there use. As some one you has served in the United States Air Force, we had required maintance procedures for EVERYTHING. Rest assured this lathe is in good condition, no broken or repaired gear teeth. We documented the lathe, disassembled, media blasted every part and inspected the parts upon assembly. Used camel back straight edges to inspect the ways. Applied primer and Sherwin Williams South Bend oil based color to the lathe with a Sata paint sprayer. This was a 9 to 10 month project working every day. We had fun, and learned lots about South Bend History. We had every intention to keep this lathe for a long time and spared no expense or time to restore this lathe to tool room condition. Unfortunately another lathe showed up and now we are doing the same treatment to this other lathe now. What is included, 3 & 4 jaw chucks, Aloris CA tool post With holders, lathe tooling, drill, live center and steady rest. Forward & Reverse Wired for 220 single phase power. These South Bend lathes are beautiful machines They were built like tanks. As long as you install them properly, keep them clean, keep them trim, and oil the lathe properly they should last forever. We have a few manuals that cover this lathe. We have a parts manuals with exploded view diagrams that shows the main parts of the lathe here. These are very helpful when trying to take the the lathes apart or put them back together. Also, locating parts can become easier, but most parts have the part number casted into them. We also have a manual that shows explosive view parts break down diagrams of the accessories for these larger lathes like the turrets, collets, steady rest, etc. Here: SOUTH BEND 10? Lathe ACCESSORIES Parts Manual. A lot of people didn’t realize the the threading dial was an accessory. It seems like a common part today, but it is actually possible to do threading well without the dial and the version of How to Run A Lathe explains this procedure.
