Here is a beautiful Lorch Watchmaker’s Lathe – made in Germany – post war I believe due to the presence of the black fixing screws on the clamp of the foot. It has seen hardly any use. He used it a few times and I never used it. The name of the original owner is stenciled across the top of the box. I have NO idea who he was. Depending on who you talk to – Lorch was considered the Best German Made Watchmakers Lathe there is, with Leinen a close 2nd, and Boley a distant third. Whatever you believe the quality of this machine leaves very little argument as to how good it is. Both headstocks, the bed, the foot (or shoe), the T-rest, the tailstock, and many of the accessories are signed either Lorch or F. Its really hard nowadays to get a set that isn’t mixed with other makers or brands. The original headstock is the one on the right, I added the 2nd on the left. All the fittings and the headstock are the standard 8mm. Many of the older lorches were 6mm. But at least you can continue to add your choice of accessories as 8mm is now the standard. The accessories include: box chuck, arbor chuck, 14 wire chucks, rose cutters, runners, sinkers, wheel chucks, screw head and ballon chucks, and a complete set of drum chucks – these are getting hard to find. There are also 3 drivers, and a special chuck for turning between centers – it is fitted with a satellite wheel so it will cause the center to “slip” if too much torque is put into it. There is also a set of carriers – one is broken – plus a set of shellac chucks. I see a roller file too! The headstock have no play and are smooth. The one on the right may be a little gummy, but with a little TLC it will be a great machine for your work! You may need to refer back to the above pictures for proper placement once you get it set up!
