You are looking at an antique hobbyist treadle lathe from the late 1800’s that was made in the USA by Millers Falls Co. This piece is all cast iron, an runs on a foot powered treadle. It is intended for small stock no longer than 16 in length. The second picture is an artist rendering from the 1885 catalogue, just to show a frontal view of what the piece looks like. I do not have the correct scroll saw for the top, or at least the correct bracket. The rest of the lathe is complete and in working condition. The piece is 24″ long, 30″ high, and has a footprint of 15″ x 24″. It has a new belt and the treadle works well. The only draw back is the rubber on the outside wheel is deteriorating. This may have been for a motorized belt for those who had them, but it does not hinder the lathe from working. This tool was Millers Falls answer to the popular Goodell hobby lathe of the period and was only made for a short time. This lathe has the word “Companion” cast right into the tool rest in the front to identify the piece. This is a really nice piece for the collector or the enthusiast. Also see my listing for a scroll saw for a treadle lathe. The item “Antique Millers Falls Companion Treadle Lathe- 1885″ is in sale since Friday, December 23, 2016.
