Downsizing, time to clear out some shop space. I bought this Sears Craftsman 12 (and about 38 between centers, not sure why they would call these 40) lathe several years ago for the specific purpose of contouring barrels. This is a tough job for any lathe, so I retrofitted it with a 3/4hp DC motor and a homemade (Variac) controller, and the machine gave a very good account of itself and runs really smoothly. These DC drives are a really nice upgrade, and I have them on everything except my mill which has a VFD. Ive since exited the barrel business so the lathe is not being used. Has all options, threading gearbox, V-belt drive and a really solid homemade (previous owner) stand with levelers that looks as if the guy had access to unlimited free steel and welding rod. The lathe also includes considerable tooling, including a tailstock drill chuck, faceplate, four-jaw chuck, steady rest and the rare milling attachment, which turned out to be an advantage for chambering barrels. Im also including some tools and wrenches, but no tool holder; I use a dovetail one that Im also using for my other lathe. See images and let me know if youd like more detail. I need the space so will appreciate prompt removal from my site. The equipment is located in Melbourne, Florida.
