Unimat DB 200 Bench, Live Steam, Watchmaker, Hobbyist, Lathe w Milling Att, NR
Also no potential risk of damage during transport. I upgraded all of my tolling a couple years ago and I haven’t used this Unimat lathe since shelving it. I strictly used this machine only for pivot polishing mainly, I have not done any significant turning, forming or shaping parts with this unit. Currently, it is set up with a slow speed attachment, 3 jaw chuck and a drilling chuck in the tail stock as well as a cross slide and tool post holder. The ways are in good shape with one exception, one small bugger on the rear way, I do not believe it will interfere or cause any major issues while turning material as it is very small and more or less insignificant. I serviced the lathe just prior to shelving it a couple years ago, Motor is nice and strong, no overheating issues, no end play and the bearings feel nice, tight and quiet, no apparent play in the head stock spindle. I never used the milling attachment, I’m assuming it will work just fine with no issues. Very smooth and easy movement on the tail stock spindle and the cross slide, no backlash that I can see. One problem that I did notice when I received it is the long lead screw between the ways for the cross slide does have a slight bend which may indeed cause issues while using it. I was told the replacement is straight and true but, never installed it to confirm those claims. Spindle draw bar is there for milling ops, original pulley bracket, hardware, 1 boring bar is also there and all will be sent along with the lathe. One last thing, the black belt running from idler to idler is a bit too tight, probably should be replaced with an adequate size one, slightly longer. The previous belt gave way on me last time I used it and that was all I hand on hand to simply finish up the work I was doing at the time, 5 min or so I ran that belt, if that, not long at all. I would strongly advise changing that belt prior to using the lathe, I suspect, it will exert or apply too much pressure on those Idler bearings leading to premature failure.
