I plugged it in and it works fine. Has a very good spring belt for the stepped pulleys. Use the size of the base wood as a guide to the size of the lathe. It has a dimmer switch as the speed control. Very heavy, over 16 lbs. No collets come with the lathe. As with all used electrical appliances, please check the wiring for yourself before plugging it in.
